Chiropractic Treatments
Chiropractic treatment typically consists of the manual spinal adjustments, however, chiropractors also employ several other therapeutic therapies to provide overall complete and effective relief from pain and discomfort.
Chiropractic Spinal Adjustments
The cornerstone of all chiropractic treatment and care is the spinal adjustment. Spinal adjustments treat a variety of symptoms and disorders as well as a numerous other health issues. Doctors of Chiropractic are the only health care professionals who are properly trained in spinal adjustments.
Chiropractic spinal adjustment is a learned technique of applying a quick but gentle pressure a misaligned or fixated spinal vertebrae in a corrective manner. Spinal adjustments are not painful. If you have ever "cracked your knuckles" it is the same sensation which also releases pressure from the joints. Most patients actually look forward to their spinal adjustments as they usually provide immediate relief from pain. Many years of study and practice are necessary to acquire the skills of providing an effective and safe chiropractic spinal adjustment. Dr. Jason J. Yoo has been practicing for over 10 years and is very proficient in spinal adjusting procedures.
Several research has proven chiropractic spinal adjustments to be the most effective treatment in numerous conditions including headaches, neck and low back pain. This is because chiropractic spinal adjustments correct several of the structural, biomechanical and neurological disorders and abnormalities of the spine which may contribute to a high number of back, neck and other non-spinal ailments.
Soft Tissue & Massage Therapy
At Capitol Rehab Chiropractic and Massage, we offer numerous soft tissue therapy techniques which can be successfully employed to assist in the reduction of pain and muscle hypertonicity and spasm. Some of these therapies include massage therapy, trigger point therapy, somatic therapy, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, acupressure point therapy, Graston, post isometric relaxation technique (PIR), and active release technique (ART). The need and benefits of these therapies vary from patient to patient. We may incorporate one or more of these therapies into your treatment plan depending on your symptoms and condition.
Massage therapy uses a variety of methods to give a positive response on the human body, mind and spirit. After all, rubbing aching muscles is natural and instinctive! Massage is a natural approach to wellness that has existed and flourished since ancient times. Massage improves circulation, joint range of motion, and flexibility. It reduces many common problems such as stress, muscle tightness, aches and pains, even anxiety and depression.
Therapeutic Exercise
Exercise is the key for a healthy and long life. Numerous studies have shown exercise to increase health by lowering blood cholesterol levels, strengthening the immune system, lowering body fat, increasing one's sense of well being, and increasing muscle strength, tone and function.
Dr. Jason J. Yoo regularly prescribes specific therapeutic strengthening exercises and stretches for patients with back, neck, and extremity problems. These exercises can decrease pain, prevent muscle deterioration, promote joint health, increase strength, stability, and range of motion, and protect against new or recurring injuries. Dr. Yoo will show you how to do the exercises and supervise you until you are comfortable doing them on your own. Therapeutic exercises for the neck, back, and extremities are an essential part of the rehabilitative process following injury. It's important to keep up with your exercises as prescribed (similarly to drug prescriptions). Studies show that individuals who follow their exercise instructions heal faster than those who do not.
Therapeutic Stretches
Therapeutic stretching is regularly used during each treatment at Capitol Rehab. Therapeutic stretching helps to prevent adhesion and scar tissue formation following an injury. Therapeutic stretching is incorporated early in the treatment plan before scar tissues become permanent. Maintaining a regular stretching program once the rehabilitation stage of treatment has been completed will help increasing mobility, keep tissues flexible and loose, and preventing new injuries.
Therapeutic Modalities
There are some physical modalities which in certain cases can provide additional pain relief and accelerated healing. Some of these more common modalities include muscle stimulation, interferential stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, and diathermy (deep heating modality).
Diet & Nutritional Lifestyle
As a former personal trainer who is avid and passionate about health and fitness, Dr. Yoo incorporates dietary and nutritional counseling into his treatment. Dietary and nutritional imbalances are responsible for and contribute to a great number of disorders and illnesses which are prevalent in today's society. Health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer have all been linked in numerous ways to diet and nutrition.
Dr. Yoo is well knowledgeable in many aspects of diet and nutrition. He can design a personalized dietary or nutritional program to minimize the risk of developing these health conditions and to assist your body in achieving and maintaining optimal health.
Lifestyle Counseling
Years of many unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as poor posture, improper lifting techniques, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, excessive reliance on medication, excessive soda and coffee consumption, excessive saturated fat consumption, lack of nutritious fruits and vegetables, and excessive mental stress, can lead to very serious health problems.
D. Yoo can help advise you through and identify those unhealthy decisions and provide you with practical strategies to deal with and effectively manage those unhealthy choices.
